About

A ceramic mosaic inscribed "1970 Timothy Leary lived loved and got high here." Dr. Leary, the Harvard psychologist turned LSD evangelist who coined "turn on, tune in, drop out", became one of the defining countercultural figures of the era. Legend has it he used to hide out in Leucadia whenever the law got too interested, holed up in the small house that once stood on this very site. What we can say for certain: Dr. Leary really was in the neighborhood, appearing backstage at Encinitas's La Paloma Theatre with Roger McGuinn in 1976, and giving a lecture there in 1979.
