Butterfly Prince
Location
On the wall in the garden of Atelier Manna
About
Mixed-media artist and musician Rory Morison, a longtime friend and bandmate of Atelier Manna's beverage director Nick, created this piece. Installed in 2023, the central figure wears a headdress of cilantro. Its coriander seeds are what the Book of Exodus compares manna to in appearance, the food said to have rained from the sky to nourish the Israelites in the desert. That chain, from seed to a story of feeding as healing, echoes the restaurant's own belief that food is medicine, and lent Atelier Manna its name ('atelier' meaning workshop). The piece also captures the playfulness and childlike wonder the space hopes to cultivate in both guests and staff. The figure is blindfolded, representing the "see with your gut" risk chef-owner Andrew Bachelier took when he left Jeune et Jolie to open his own place.
