Encinitas Historical Music Mural
Location
On the south wall of The Leucadian
About
Painted in 2017 by Michael Richard Rosenblatt, founder of Rosenblatt Studios, this 20-by-50-foot mural carries a formally mounted dedication plaque, unusual on the 101. Rosenblatt conceived it as a "music hero" tribute, reasoning that Encinitas's musicians deserved the same adulation given to its surfing legends. Promoter Scott Clayton suggested The Leucadian as the site, and a benefit concert at the bar raised funds to start the project. Rosenblatt painted it in a cartoon fun style meant to capture the local Leucadian vibe. The plaque reads: "Tribute to our creative heroes" and names Candye Kane, Jack Tempchin, Graham Nancarrow, Scott Clayton, Semisi Ma'u, Robert Cowan, Wally Passet, and Michael Schmitt, musicians who shaped the sound of Encinitas and beyond.
